Infrared Information

The three images you see are of the same candle. The lights were turned out so that only the light coming from the candle would be visible. The first picture was taken of the candle without the infrared filter attached. The shutter was open for only one second. As you can see, parts of the first picture were over-exposed. The second and third pictures were taken with the infrared filter attached. The shutter was left open for 5 seconds. For the third picture I left the shutter open for 20 seconds.
I thought it was very interesting that the amount of time necessary to expose the third picture was twenty times that of the first.

Green House Effect

This is a picture of some greenhouses that have been lighted. I was able to get up above them, but would like to have been up higher.

I was pleased with the result, although I think that having taken the picture at dusk may have been better.

I have been thinking about shooting this for several days and drove by this location several times. I liked the sight of it at night.

Infrared Photography

I just got a new filter for capturing infrared light. The image was taken today, in RAW mode and I used one of the programs that came with my camera to 'adjust' the image so it would look better.

I am becoming very excited about infrared. I never really knew what it was about and I'm finding that the effect is very interesting.

The picture was taken at the 'doggy park' in Ventura. I took several pictures of that tree and decided that this one was my favorite.

Of course, this picture was taken on a cloudy day, so it didn't turn out as well. I'm finding that infrared requires lots of light to get the best effect, so I'll have to wait for a sunny day to get a better picture.

I've included the 'color' version as well as the black and white so you can see the difference.

Mission San Buenaventura

I was down at Mission San Buenaventura yesterday and decided to take a few pictures. I even went into the museum and got a few there. This was actually my favorite of the bunch.

Interesting Effect

This picture was taken in traffic on Santa Monica Blvd. The shutter was open for 1/2 second. The picture is taken through the windshield of the van so there's some reflection from the windshield. Also the quality isn't that good because it was taken in a hurry. I like the trail of light the passing cars left.

Sailing

I was surprised at how this picture turned out. I really liked it. On a Sunday not too long ago I was out at the beach with Will, Natalie and Fallon and captured this image with my camera.
I just love how the sunlight lights up the ocean. It looks like the perfect picture.

Night Photography

I am taking an interest in night photography. This is a picture of some kind of plant. I'm assuming it has something to do with paper because of the huge stacks of it you can see which seem to wrap around the property.

I don't really care what they produce or process. It's actually the lights and the structures and how they look at night. I find it very interesting.

Also, you can see the white light of a passing vehicle in the form of a white streak across the bottom of the picture.

Electrical problem or playing with matches?

It would be wise to play it safe at the gas station. I was on my way to Arizona and just inside the border I stopped at my favorite gas station. To my surprise, no gas was being served.
I asked a fireman on the scene what had happened. He said that he believed the vehicle was having electrical problems. It used to be a van.
Luckily for me I was still able to get some of my favorite chocolate milk there. The whole trip would have been a disaster otherwise.
